Reflecting on the Empowered Cultivator Lab Experience

Hi, I’m Erica 👋

I recently joined Cultivate as their Operations & Automation Assistant. Based on our Cultivator DNA model, my Cultivator type is a “tinkerer” (click here to find out yours) . As a tinkerer, I always jump at the opportunity to experiment and try new things. One of the first things I did was sign up for the Empowered Cultivator Lab in an effort to understand Cultivate’s work better. Let’s just say, I’m so glad I did.

After 10-day lab, here’s what I gained:

  1. Permission to be myself

In the very first email, I was given permission to be myself. Empowered Cultivators are described as creatives who don’t just sit on the sidelines. They have the courage to bring their ideas to life by exploring, taking action, and creating change within their organizations. I really resonated with this description, and was thankful for the “green light” as the Lab kicked off.

  2. Inspiration to think outside the box

Organizational change often starts with an idea that someone thinks is stark raving mad. Each day, the Empowered Cultivator Lab shared a real-life example of a Cultivator making major changes within their organization. I felt so inspired learning how people are showing up creatively at work (Carolina and David, for example) and discovering new ways to get buy-in from leaders.

  3. Motivation to connect with others

Creating change within an organization is really hard to do alone. The Empowered Cultivator Lab encouraged me to find my tribe and connect with other like minded people to get things done. I learned about the power in empowerment and what happens when you exercise power with your community. From this perspective, we can overcome barriers to innovation. A major bonus is the Cultivators Community on Slack, which is a great place to share ideas, get inspired and make meaningful connections with other Empowered Cultivators.

  4. Courage to start something new

An important concept shared during the Lab is that progress is better than perfection. This statement freed me so much. There have been times in my career when I have felt afraid to share a new idea or implement a change because it wasn’t “perfect” yet. The Lab encouraged me to start small, “making ripples before making waves”. Even when things don’t go as planned, I can still learn from every situation and use the insight to try again.

You can access the Empowered Cultivator Lab for free. You’ll receive ten daily emails jam-packed with Cultivator stories, resources on empowerment, and experiments that encourage you to take action out in the real world. This course is self-paced & accessible to anyone, so feel free to share it with a friend or colleague who wants to show up more empowered at work.
