At Cultivate, we talk a lot about turning ideas into action—but first, you need that essential spark. And then you need to give that spark the space to turn into a fire. But amid the repetition of day to day life, it can be hard to make space to nourish creative thought.
That’s why we host fifteen-minute right-brain warm-ups at Cultivate. These dedicated creativity exercises help us shake off the cobwebs and get the ideas flowing.
Want to try them with your team? Here are five of our favorites.
1. Product Identity
Instructions:
Think of an object that starts with the same letter as your last name, then an object that begins with the same letter as your first name.
Combine the two objects to create a product or service.
Sketch and write down as many ideas as you can. Who does this product serve? What problem does it solve?
Why do this?
2. Color Memories
Instructions:
Choose a color, and take 3 minutes to sketch as many items as possible representing that color.
Choose which two objects have the most in common besides their color. Take 1 minute to name those objects and their shared qualities.
Take another 2 minutes to list as many differences as possible between the two objects.

3. Deserted Island
Instructions:
Take 30 seconds to choose three items from the list below to take with you to a deserted island.
Now take 2 minutes to write down what you selected and why it will help you survive.

Instructions:
Grab a sheet of paper and a pen

Instructions:
Imagine you have a mansion with 120 rooms to fill with anything, but each room must have a unique purpose. Write down as many room options as you can think of.
